 cubs
pat, i got ahold of Doug and Mary, they had cubs. The only thing i would worry about is if i get a male is them breeding. If i would get a female, I don't know how they would get along.

get the male neurtered.
not sure how a female/female would get along.
but, my guess is, since cloie is actually still young.
most likely, they will be fine.
I think michael has a couple females together.
as for the male, keep in mind, they do get alot bigger than the female.
dougs cubs are so nice and friendly though.
it is just their size could be intimading
benny is a 700lb+ big "teddy bear'

I would go for another female. They will get along up until they come in season. If you get them while they are young and put them together they will do fine. I have 3 females together and only one of them is really dominate but shes still not really aggressive, they all sleep together and eat together. Dougs bears temperment are like none I have ever seen. They do an excellent job when nursing the cubs. If you can buy on of his. For the most part my bears all get along pretty good. I was surprised that two of my males can stay together year round and the smaller bear respects the larger male, they even play and rough each other up and lay on each other and sleep.

I had a male cub that was about 6 months old the first time I let him in with an older female. Would be best for you too put a pen beside your female and keep them seperated for a couple of weeks so they get used too each other unless of course they are around each other when your new cub is still really small. Dont be surprised if your cub is the aggessive one at first. They know their sibilings and mothers scent and a new scent might set it off until it knows its ok. Now as far as getting him fixed I would consult with someone who has done it. I never had any of my bears fixed. I would think that you would want too do it between 6 and 12 months because of their weight, but I could be wrong. I do know the smaller like dogs the less it will cost you because of meds used too put him under. Ask around on here and if you dont find an answer let me know and I will call the owner of a bear I took in he was fixed when I got him. Something about males when you get them fixed, they tend too put on more weight than males that are intact not in every case but something too cosider. A MALE BEAR WILL GET BIGGER than a female bear anyhow by 200 too 300lbs in some cases just depends. I know Dougs bears are in great health and get the stuff they need so you will probably get a cub from him thats going too have some size too it when its full grown. Im sure you already know from having a bear already that you shouldnt rough house with your cub. No one told me that when I got my first cub and he would tackle me everytime I walked into his enclosure and now I cant get in with him anymore...lol I loved raising a cub if I could spend more one on one time with a female cub I would gladly do it again. I have one small female named Lily I got her from Mandy (Dinkka) I can love on this bear take her out walk her around, but if anyone else approaches me Lily will go crazy and she hates most women. I dont know why but all of the sudden she changed and I cant let my daughter or wife near her. Good luck and when you get your new baby be sure too post pics soon.

michael,
grunt is fixed. he was about 6-7 months old when he got fixed.
actually, I had the opportunity to watch the whole procedure.
I think the weight gain in males, depends on how much they are fed.
you did a wonderful job of getting grunts weight down.
benny is intact, and is is overweight.
(his dad gives him too many goodies)

WOW you got too watch huh? I kinda figured it would have too be about 6 mo or a little older just like dogs. Grunt can run now and plays, when I first got him I knew the weight had too come down. He is still a big boy always comes right up too me as soon as I come out. He loves gummy bears and beer lol. Peanut butter and jelly and pizza......he loves his junk food. I put him on dog food only as soon as I got him and gave him green vegs as treats also frozed treats.
Pet Lover..... An idea for treats is too freeze a gallon of koolaid put gum drops or gummy bears or any kind of fruit that your bear likes. I use a milk jug freeze the whole thing then cut the milk jug off with a utility knife and give my bears the big chunk of ice. Grunt eats all the icicles that hang in his pen he loves ice. I also have a pond here and its full of blue gill and sunfish I catch them and throw them too the bears. I put the fish in the swimming tanks and let them chase and catch the fish and also throw in apples in the water.

I can't remember how old grunt was when he was neurtered.
I do know, he was pretty big. not full grown though.
it took the vet about 15-20 minutes to do this procedure.
I was surprised the way the vet did it. was not what I thought it would of been. the vet basically did a small incision and pulled the "stuffing" out
I know wilma spoiled him with all the goodies. not sure if she gave him bear though. sybil and benny love bear and wine coolers.
appreciate the tip on the treats. I will give that a try.
did grunt hibernate?
