Post help with a sick emu
someone emailed me about their emu.
this is the problem.
Quote:
She is eating scramble eggs, grapes, apples, some dried dog food. She is still falling over and walking (when she can get up) backwards. She is alert. We are trying to find out if there is some vitamin or something we can put on her food to boost her energy. One vet said her diet is one problem. As far as I am concerned whatever I can get her to eat right now is good. Everyone seems to think neuro. problems. Can anyone help me? If I am doing wrong hanging onto her I need to know.

to me, it sounds like a mengerie worm. but, she this emu had this problem for a few weeks. this emu is a rescue, so the owner really don't have much background on the emu. except, the emu supposedly fell on ice and broke her hip.

I told her to give the emu an injection of ivomec, vitamin B12, feed her turkey finisher and electrolites.

any thoughts or ideas?

Sounds like equine enchephalitits in emus. They get brain swelling, they have trouble getting up and walk weird because of the swelling. They also dont eat well. from what I could gather on it, they can only keep it hydrated and eating. They have to get over it on their own. I wonder if an anti inflammitory would help from the vet. The b-12 is good.
